Nassau County Implements Everbridge for Automatic Weather Alerts

Glendale, Calif. – Jan. 7, 2014 – Nassau County, Florida, home to more than 75,000 residents, is using Everbridge, the leading provider of critical communication solutions, for automatic weather alerts and emergency notifications. With Everbridge, Nassau County is able to alert its entire community in seconds about disasters, evacuations, road closures, and tropical storms.

In emergencies, Nassau County can use Everbridge to quickly send time-sensitive emails, text messages, and other critical notifications to residents. Residents can choose from nearly 40 different types of alerts, including SMART Weather Alerts for location-specific updates on floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and severe weather events. Nassau County residents can choose how and where they want to receive alerts, and have the option to specify any quiet reporting periods.

Everbridge makes it easier for Nassau County to alert residents in affected areas during a crisis. Nassau County Emergency Management is able to send targeted notifications based on criteria like geographic location, ensuring that individuals only receive notifications that are relevant to them. In addition, Nassau County Emergency Management can confirm when messages are received, letting the system know it should stop making attempts once the recipient gets the message.

“We can really start reaching the community so they’re made aware of things that are going to take place, like floods, hurricanes, and road closures,” said Traci Masau, interim director for Nassau County Emergency Management. “It could be really beneficial for them. There are definitely a lot of options with Everbridge that make it more useful for citizens.”
