US Coast Guard Auxiliary
Steve Pegram

“In the past, we had to manually call more than 1,900 volunteers in our database, which took 12 people eight to 12 hours. During Hurricane Gustav, we notified our volunteers in minutes and received confirmation of their whereabouts in a quarter of the time using Everbridge.”

Everbridge for Department of Defense

The Department of Defense has a broad mission that ranges from fighting wars to humanitarian relief efforts. The DoD's mission is often global in reach and covers a diverse range of organizational units, making the ability to communicate and coordinate critical. Lives, property, and reputations are often on the line.

Everbridge provides an enterprise-ready solution for DoD commanders and managers to rapidly and effectively communicate to groups and individuals with notifications that can make all the difference when responding to an emergency or crisis. We help organizations rapidly address personnel accountability during an emergency, distribute documents/web links, conduct surveys, and send critical messages that affect momentary and long-term outcomes.

Directorates in Operations, Communications/Electronics, Personnel, and Continuity of Operations are but a few of the groups that benefit from an emergency and incident notification system. Host installation emergency management teams, command posts, tenant units, program managers, Unified and Joint Commands are also beneficiaries of improved communication with the Everbridge Aware® emergency notification system.

How Everbridge Helps Military

  • A single, unified emergency notification system. No need to undertake complex, lengthy, and costly integrations of net-centric (email), switch-based (phone), and SaaS-based systems and databases, particularly when multiple locations are involved. Everbridge provides a single, secure, unified platform for notifying personnel via email, text message, IM, cell phone, land line phone, fax, satellite phone, and pager or TTY/TDD devices. Implementations take days and weeks rather than months or years as with premise-based systems.
  • Faster communications without the call trees. Obsolete phone trees and calling lists divert usable manpower from planning or execution tasks and tie up unit phone lines. Everbridge brings modern efficiency to unit activations, emergency notifications, and standard information dissemination by automating manual processes, freeing up personnel to focus on more important responsibilities.
  • Improved response times and coordination efforts. Streamline and accelerate troop mobilization, deployment, and on-the-ground coordination with efficient and accurate outreach capabilities.
  • Continuous communications. Even if one or all premise-based systems, email, Internet, or phone networks are unavailable, Everbridge will deliver text and voice messages to other devices, such as cell phones, PDAs, and pagers.
  • Reduced risk of human error during crises. Significantly minimize the risk of human error with an automated notification solution that systematically delivers clear, consistent messages to recipients on all communication devices and escalates the message as required.
  • Highest availability of any emergency notification system. In an emergency, the most important criteria that must be met and the greatest value of a notification system are its availability and ease of use. Everbridge provides the industry's most redundant and resilient platform backed by Service Level Agreements for system availability and message delivery, something premise-based systems cannot offer. Our simple 1-2-3 notification method and targeted messaging ensure that system users can quickly and effectively communicate with affected personnel.
  • Enterprise-class professional services. Everbridge has assembled the industry’s most experienced staff of IT professionals, Certified Emergency Managers, and consultants to implement our enterprise emergency notification solutions. Our job doesn’t stop just because we ring phones and send emails and text messages. We work closely with our DoD clients to ensure their notification solution addresses specific operational needs. Additionally, our NOC is staffed 7x24x365 to assist clients any time of day or night.

Personnel Accountability and Safety

  • Weather and security advisories. Advise service members of vital information related to base closings, changes in security posture, or workplace changes.
  • Accountability status checks. Rapidly send notifications to check the whereabouts and safety of all or selected personnel located anywhere during an emergency.
  • Accountability reporting. Detailed reports compile receipt-of-confirmation and accountability status information immediately after launching a broadcast. Create custom reports on-the-fly.

Family Readiness/Morale Welfare

  • Family communication and support. Deliver meeting announcements, newsletters, bulletins, unit updates, and other event information to family members associated with a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman, Guardsman, or Reservist.

Exercises and Recall

  • Drills. Conduct unscheduled drills and exercises to improve incident response times, show team acknowledgement rates, and meet regulatory testing requirements.
  • Verification of unit readiness. Rehearse alert procedures and gain a true measure of your ability to execute rapidly.
  • Unit recall. Contact tens, hundreds, or thousands of unit members and support personnel in minutes
  • Reserve unit activation. Contact personnel through multiple channels of communication, maximizing successful contacts and minimizing wasted time and resources.

Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Compliance

  • COOP-compliant notifications. Everbridge Aware helps ensure uninterrupted operations with notification automation, a variety of notification types, and targeted messaging capabilities that meet requirements outlined in DoD Directive 3020.36, Department of Defense Continuity Programs, for notification of DoD executive staff and affected personnel during times of emergency that threaten DoD Components and the ability to carry out operations.
  • Host installation notification. Notify installation personnel at a moment's notice even when network, telephone, or power systems are unavailable or incapacitated. Everbridge Aware will continue to send messages even if one or all premise-based systems are unavailable.
  • Operations Center notifications and alerts. Respond to immediate or evolving situations that require rapid communication and coordination of resources. Notify units and selected personnel immediately and leverage polling and quota notifications to gather information, response team status and reporting times, and more.
  • Tenant notifications. Provide tenants of a host installation a seamless way to benefit from base-wide notifications while maintaining their own organizational messaging and records. Using the Everbridge Aware opt-in portal, tenant units can securely create organizational groups for their own use while being part of a unified installation emergency management system.
  • Command alerting. Create the entire command and installation organizational hierarchies in one unified database. Notify any or all personnel and groups command-wide or on an installation or program basis.
  • Regional emergency collaboration. Everbridge's easy-to-use unified database allows the notification of an entire organization or geographic area, no matter how large or dispersed.

Reporting

  • Acknowledgements. Request confirmation of receipt of important notices and measure team response rates to emergencies and drills.
  • Compliance reporting requirements. Satisfy reporting requirements with real-time confirmation data and full audit-trail reporting that includes a history of communications, delivery attempts, and acknowledgements from recipients.
